The Standard Alcohol Company

Standard Alcohol Company of America, Inc. is a privately held company incorporated in the State of Colorado, in 2000. Standard Alcohol's story began in the early 90's, at which time, MTBE (the common gasoline additive/oxygenate) had been found to be toxic to the environment.

Seeking to demonstrate that alcohol was a viable, environmentally-friendly alternative to petroleum fuels, Standard Alcohol researched the mixed alcohol work that had been previously discontinued. At the time, the possibility of synthesizing blends of higher mixed alcohols to replace the lead in gasoline had achieved some definite success. Through collaboration with the recently-retired catalytic chemist who oversaw some of the most promising experiments, Standard Alcohol set about completing the testing and application work to create what is now known as Envirolene, a blend of ten alcohols.

Upon receiving EPA registration authority to blend Envirolene into the U.S. gasoline and diesel supply, Standard Alcohol went on to file the first of its formula and usage patents. Additional formula and usage patents are pending in the United States and thirty-five foreign countries, including the European Union.

In 2010, under new management and with additional funding, Standard Alcohol performed its first successful bench test of the catalyst. With this success, the management team executed a comprehensive plan to complete the testing and validation of the technology and began the transformation of Standard Alcohol to that of a commercial enterprise.
