Flexible Fuel Vehicles are automobiles or light trucks with the ability to operate on multiple fuel blends. The usable fuels include regular gasoline as well as several alternative fuels such as M-85 (85% Methanol & 15% gasoline), E-85 (85% Ethanol & 15% gasoline) or pure mixed alcohol. SACA’s green Envirolene® neat, has greater energy density than E-85.
The difference between regular vehicles and FFV's is a small computer microprocessor within the fuel system. This processor detects what fuel blend is being utilized and automatically adjusts the engine's ignition timing and air/fuel mixture ratios accordingly. The FFV chip adjusts the engine's optimum performance for any ratio of gasoline to fuel alcohol.
Major automobile manufacturers have several FFV models available for purchase. The FFV multi-fuel processor is low cost and occasionally is provided free of charge during special auto manufacturer promotions.
